How to install opera browser on Ubuntu 15.10

Ubuntu already comes with pre-installed web browser which is mozilla firefox, but of course you can install other browser if you want, such as opera web browser.

In this article i will show you how to install opera web browser on ubuntu 15.10 wily werewolf 64 bit. Why 64 bit? because unfortunately, opera didn't support for 32 bit operating system anymore.

So if you are running 32 bit ubuntu, unfortunately this tutorial does not work for you, there is no 32 bit version of opera available, i mean the latest one.

Step by step how to install opera web browser on ubuntu 15.10
  • go to opera website and download the installation file (.deb)
  • you can directly install with ubuntu software center, but for this tutorial let's just save the installation file.

  • open terminal/console/command mode (press CTRL + ALT + T) and then navigate to ~/Download directory where the opera installation file located.

  • cd ~/Download

  • run this command to install opera web browser

  • sudo dpkg -i opera-stable_33.0.1990.115_amd64.deb

  • open opera browser from the command line by typing this:

  • opera

For some reasons, opera cannot be called from the unity search on ubuntu launcher, so you have to called it from the command line.

Once open, you can right click on the opera icon on the launcher and then select 'lock to launcher', so that next time you can open it from the ubuntu launcher.

~ cheers ~
